Can you believe it's been over 5 months since I launched Adventures with Nell?! It took about two years of saying that I wanted to start a blog to actually give it a go, mainly because I didn't know how to set it up, maintain it or what the hell I'd actually write about. To be completely honest I still have no idea what I'm doing, but I'm enjoying the steep learning curve and hugely excited to continue to develop my skills and my writing style.
My friend Aliss, owner of Workshop, is one of the most inspirational women I know - she is my ultimate role model and I’m so proud of her. She took the plunge and left her job as a designer to open her own business. She’s had to work unbelievably hard and make a hell of a lot of sacrifices, but she knew what she wanted and she went for it - what a woman! The result? Workshop. A gorgeous cafe, shop and creative space in the heart of Headingley.
Hi! I’m Ellen, also known as Nell. I’m a Leeds based blogger writing about the things I love most in life: travelling, eating, and general adventures.

I never planned on writing a blog post solely reviewing the hotel, but we had such a lovely time here that I had to! So here it is.
Despite Manchester only being an hour away from home, I pretty much know nothing about it. So when Billy whisked me away for the weekend to see Jersey Boys at the theatre (which was great by the way, definitely recommend!) I took the opportunity to experience the city in the best way I know how... via my taste buds.
This weekend Billy and I had a day out to White Scar Cave in Ingleborough, North Yorkshire. As a Christmas present to Billy I created a year of fun, which has consisted of me planning a day out/activity/event etc. to do together once a month for the next year... Well this was January's treat! If you're looking for a day out in Yorkshire and a great place to eat afterwards, read on!
Kirkgate Market is hands down the number one reason I love living in Leeds, so it's only fair that my first post of the year is about just that. I'm lucky enough to work only a couple of minutes walk from the market meaning that I can shop there on my lunch breaks, and this has very much influenced the way that I shop and cook: buying little and often and deciding what to have for tea based on what's available on the day. And when I'm not shopping in the market, I'm talking about the market and telling everyone else to shop there.
After spending a few festive days with my family in Buckinghamshire, I took the opportunity to spend the day being a tourist in London on my way back up to Leeds. With so much to see and do in this wonderful (and somewhat overwhelming) city, the hardest part was actually planning the day and, of course, where to have lunch!
My annual leave is usually spent on adventures abroad, but sometimes it's important to take time off work just to relax! I've spent the last couple of days doing exactly that with two of my best friends. So, how do three girls who haven't seen each other in a while and just want to have a good old natter spend 36 hours in the wonderful city of Leeds? Here's what we got up to, feel free to steal ideas for the next time you're at a loose end!
All I knew about wrestling was that it's choreographed (which I thought meant fake) and that men wearing lycra had to throw each other around a ring and pin their opponent to the floor for 3 seconds to win. It turns out there's so much more to it, and actually it's a really fun night out that I would highly recommend! Here's my beginners guide to Underground Pro Wrestling for those who want an unusual night out in Leeds and want to know what to expect.
A couple of weeks ago my parents visited me in Leeds for the weekend. This usually consists of lots of eating and drinking, but also a day out exploring Yorkshire. After thinking long and hard about where to take them, I eventually suggested getting the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway steam train from Keighley to Haworth. We would wander cobbled streets, visit the Brontë museum and enjoy the Yorkshire countryside.
Welcome to Adventures with Nell and my first EVER blog post. I’m finally taking the plunge after wanting to start this blog for a very long time (we’re talking years), and to be honest with you I’m pretty terrified! So I’ll start with a little about me to get into the swing of things.
